About

Perception Creates Reality

Lumières transform environs by using light, shadow, and color to create new moods in familiar spaces, in an instant.

Dana Major is a Chicago-based artist whose Lumières explore how perception creates reality. With the flip of a switch, these light sculptures of hand-wrought steel and brass, with vintage glassware and studio-made LEDs, re-create their environments by casting unexpected lightfall. Change a living space into an after-hours lounge, a kitchen into a fine-dining niche, or transform stairwells and corridors into contemplative passageways that lead to relaxation or mindful entertaining.

Lumières re-articulate the spaces they occupy by illuminating surroundings, surfaces, and architecture in new ways. Chosen hues of light fold, redirect, and saturate unexpected elements with wonder.
